Thank you for using the Apple Support Communities. I know having an issue installing OS X El Capitan is not what you expect. If I understand correctly, you are unable to upgrade from OS X 10.6.8 to OS X El Capitan, as the Install OS X El Capitan file returns an error that the file is damaged. I have 2 suggestions to help resolve your issue.

Oct 03, 2015 I had this problem in the past when i went install maverik and yosemite, but with inject KextBeast.Pkg into these OS my HDD showed, unfortunately this PKG dosen't work on EL Captain. 1. Use safe mode to start up your Mac so that it performs certain checks, delete system cache files, verifies your startup disk, and attempts to repair directory issues if needed. Then try using the Mac App Store to download and install OS X El Capitan again.
Try safe mode if your Mac doesn't finish starting up
Limited graphics performance in OS X recovery or safe mode
2. If you have access to a different Mac computer, you can create a bootable installer for OS X El Capitan on that computer, then use that to startup your Mac and install OS X El Capitan.

Repair the Drive for El Capitan
- Restart the computer and after the chime hold down the Command and R keys until the Utility Menu appears.
- Select Disk Utility and press the Continue button.
- Then select the indented (usually, Macintosh HD) volume entry from the the side list.
- Click on the First Aid tab in the toolbar and wait for the Done button to activate. Click on it, then quit Disk Utility.
- Select Restart from the Apple menu.
If you have problems then please post a snapshot of what Disk Utility is showing on the screen. Your explanation is just too vague to be helpful.

- Drag the image onto the Choose File button and click on the Insert button.

The above is only useful when running Disk Utility from the running system. If you boot from the Recovery HD, then you will need to snap an image using an iDevice in order to post the image here.
